Hi All, I am after a Burman BA mainshaft for my Ariel VH, It looks as though it is 11 9/16" long, with a 1/2" thread clutch end and 7/16" the other, would anyone have any suggestions where I could pick one up
Regards
Peter

Re: Burman BA gearbox 4th gear issue
Continuing on with the work on the gearbox I noticed that the 4th gear sleeve bush on the cog side (ie outside the box) was protruding slightly from the sleeve, does the sleeve bush need to be flush or is this not a real issue

Re: Burman GB Gears - Rescuing the dogs?
I picked up an old workshop book that indicated that the dogs can be built up using "Stellite" or similar hard-facing welding rod, Stellite alloy is a range of cobalt-chromium alloys designed for wear resistance. It may also contain tungsten or molybdenum and a small but important amount of carbon.

Re: Burman BA gearbox 4th gear issue
I suspect looking at the amount of lubrication that came out of the gearbox the grease/oil mix (in fact it was now nearly all oil) had dropped down enough for the layshaft and selector fork to run dry then hot welding the selector fork arm to the sliding gear. Mmmm "there's a lesson"

Re: Burman BA gearbox 4th gear issue
Well, I found the problem, The layshaft selector fork had fractured welding itself to the sliding gear, or the other way around (It may be salvageable) and breaking away, In the process it damaged gear number 28 breaking off a couple of teeth.
