Re: GB gearbox assembly

I found out by chance that the selector drum needs to be positioned with the slight recess or dimple in the side facing towards the layshaft or the outer cover will not seat properly. It also helps if the gears are in neutral and the gear lever is on to stop the selector backing off into the case on ...

Re: removing top fork bush

I forgot to add that the groove may be hidden by dirt and oil but it is there.

Re: removing top fork bush

Yes I use a small electrician's screwdriver. It needs to be a strong one. There is a groove that allows the screwdriver to get behind the clip to lever it up then move the screwdriver blade along to gradually lever out the clip. You might find it helpful to have a second screwdriver or pick to stop ...

Re: Ariel wanted

I have a 350 and a 500 for sale. Nottinghamshire. Both are registered and running. Restored by me but plenty of scope for cosmetic improvements. The 500 has electronic ignition for easier starting but that is easily reversed. Both are ‘54 swingarm models. The 350 is matching numbers. PM me if you ...

Re: NH alloy cylinder head and head gasket

Dean,
Both of my NH’s have alloy heads on cast barrels. Both of mine have aluminium push rods but I don’t know if that is a requirement. Both engines have enclosed push rod tunnels not separate push rod tubes. It may be of interest that the push rods I have were too long, my NH takes 10 and 11/16 ...

Re: NH alloy cylinder head and head gasket

Thanks for all replies. I won't use a gasket.
Julian, yes, on my other NH the head had been milled to such an extent that the spigot could not seal. I don't know why. I used a gasket an achieved a seal.

NH alloy cylinder head and head gasket

I have a '56 NH engine with iron barrel and I bought an alloy cylinder head independently as I did not have an original iron head. It seems that alloy heads on an NH are comparatively rare, though I now have two NH's with alloy heads!
Although I have good compression without a copper head gasket ...

Re: oil pipe connections

This diagram is from the '56 guide but it is the same for a '53 with the possible exception of the rocker feed that can come from a T piece on the oil tank return or from the timing cover it depends if it has been modified over the years.

Re: Wanted shock absorber nut 1290-26

Thanks Will. I buy regularly from ACME but I must have overlooked this. I looked in the ‘imperial fasteners’ section but did not find one. I will order two.
