So after a very enjoyable couple of years restoring and then riding my lovely Huntmaster, I sadly need to sell it on.
It has received literally hundreds of hours of my time, and many hours of fantastic help and advice from club experts.
It has been completely nut and bolt restored, and (I’d ...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
Mick
Since day 1 of this great fun restoration, your advice on every topic has been immeasurably helpful.
Your explanation of this last gremlin is equally bang on and very clear. Bike firmly parked while a plain gear is sent for.
With many thanks, All the best

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
Hi Mick
Yes - dummy magneto (head is triangular like the K2F, houses a coil and some sort of solid state magnet set up. Near billet design bought from drags. The Wassell coil trigger is static installed inside that circle, and then a timing marked rotor bolts into the AR so that bit whizz’s around ...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
Hi Mick
Yes that’s the system I’ve fitted. I did think the instruction to remove the AR unit couldn’t possibly mean an A10/Huntmaster - since if it was removed, there would be an empty hole and nothing to drive the timing!
I definitely don’t want to dismantle the AR unit to disable it (in case I ...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
The discolouring of chrome is unaffected by the quality of the application, if chrome gets above a certain temperature it will alter in colour, chemical stuff. The main advantage of electronic ignition is that the 2 sparks will be 180 degrees apart, so this is unlikely to be your problem ...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
Evening Mick. Mr Amazon brought me an infrared thermometer - and the head by the exhaust after about a 10mile roll was 193c. Temp between the cylinders just under the rocker box was 230. The rocker box over the exhaust valves was 220deg c and the rear was 195. Just for fun - the carb was 48deg and ...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
Morning Mick
Yes you’re right - converted to electronic (Wassell unit - seems good). I set the trigger at fully advanced and 34degrees BTDC. I did read that depending on the electronics, the trigger may do it’s things bang on time, but the minuscule differences in electronic bits may mean the spark ...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
Hi Will
Your right - drive side is more blue, timing side is getting there, but less so. Exhausts are from Armours - so I’d hope they’re ok, but there is a blue patch of poor chrome on the timing side too (further down the pipe) which has blued and is clearly just that- poor.
Anyhow / to the ‘why ...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide
Great discussion chaps - thank you. Have cleaned out the carb, sorted the filter element (just in case) and brimmed the tank. Will do a further mixture check (it may be a bit rich - I get a bit of ‘Rev hang’ when changing gear at slightly higher revs), and the exhaust are slightly sooty - so will ...
