I wouln't start the engine on a 'hope' that the oil is circulating. :o

How long will you run the engine for until you decide thats enough ?

All depends on how damaged the thread actually is.

Start with a new nut of the correct type/thread.

I would use a needle file or files to make the correct 'adjustments'.

This way you can remove just enough material by keep trying the nut on the thread.

I would be afraid of removing too much with ...

Once you see oil appearing in the oil tank, put your finger over the oil return for a few more kicks.

This will drive oil up into the rockers and valve gear.

Having said that, looking at the picture of your bike, ammo boxes would spoil the look of it.

I'm now suggesting canvas pannier bags.

Ammo Cases.

Various sizes can be found if you hunt about. On line urplus shops, e bay etc.

Top opening, often with seals to make them waterproof.

You can easily make a tubular frames and then paint the box in a colour of you choice.
