Hi
Maybe I’m confused and it is a copper gasket. Can’t remember anymore. I’ll check when I open it up.

Re: 1954 NH - blown head gasket
Hi Simon,
The head is cast iron, but the gasket on my engine is paper, not copper.

1954 NH - blown head gasket
Hi everyone,
My 1954 NH was running very well since the rebuild, but on my last ride and coming up to the first 500 mi service, I suddenly felt it loosing power. Luckily just a few miles from home and was able to get back. As it turns out, the head gasket blew around the front right corner.

Re: Mk 1 Square 4 piston clearence
It wasn‘t that difficult, and there wasn’t any distortion. Just be sure to put something between the jaws of the lathe and the piston so as not to score the skirt. The IMD pistons have enough thickness to skim the tops down to flat, also confirmed by IMD themselves. I gave them a ring and they were ...

Re: Mk 1 Square 4 piston clearence
The thread Paul posted was mine. Here’s a short summary of my experience:
I used IMD pistons, which are actually for a MKII and have a raised top. My head and barrel had been skimmed more than they should have, so I ended up with a very high compression. This caused the head gasket to blow after a ...

Re: 1950 VB trouble starting
Hi Bevan,
I never liked fuel filters. In my experience they cause more problems than they‘re worth, like air locks for example, so I never use them. Maybe there lies the problem…
Glad to hear she‘s running well again.
Cheers,
Gui

Re: 1950 VB trouble starting
Hi Bevan,
Also check if your exhaust lifter is not stuck or touching the ex valve when hot. Sometimes it’s a simple thing like that. And as said before, recheck valve clearances.
The spacer is always a good idea, but I would doubt that’s the problem and would suspect the ignition. Check points ...
