Re: KH 500 Twin: cylinder overhauling and spares

For cylinder liners try Westwood in the UK. They are very good to deal with. While they do not list a liner for the KH, try the Triumph speedtwin liner as it is the same bore as the KH. See this site

Re: ISDT/Competition Ariels

Love the HT scrambler Vincent. The lengthened swing arm looks to be a piece welded in rather than a new swing arm, which is just as described to me recently by Chris. There is also a mention of an altered headstock angle. While the ISDT version of the HT had a 63 degree headstock angle and the HT 64 ...

fork top bolt

After numerous occasions when other drivers ignored or did not understand my hand signals I fitted blinkers to one of my 57VH. Because the blinker, hi lo and horn switches used such fine wire I also fitted relays to the horn and headlight. I had purchased a box of what I thought was 5 relays but ...

Re: Ariel front fork valve

No they do not appear to be the Eddie Dow dampers. They look to me like they screw into the bottom of the fork stanchion and incorporate internal valving held in with a circlip. Not sure about what happens with the tapered hydraulic stop in the leg.

Re: Duff horn circuit

There may be a little confusion here with regards to the term HOT WIRE. Are you referring to the wire being physically hot or do you mean the active wire which is often referred to as the hot wire (common terminology in Australia) while the other wire is the neutral wire. The active or hot wire is ...

Re: Ariel rear full width hub Type 12 and type 15

While it has been mentioned that the central spacer and wheel spindles are different , the stud spacings for the sprocket are the same. However the sprockets are not the same. The Ariel is 47t while the BSA is 42t, and the BSA sprocket has a different offset. The bare alloy hub is the same. Cant ...

I have an 860 Ducati piston here which could also be used. It is 86mm. I believe that it will give 8.5 to 1 compression ratio. The piston pin is smaller so a new little end is required. There are of course higher com aftermarket 860 pistons available. With regard to valve cut outs to suit the ...

No I used 98 octane petrol. There is no problem at 10.5 to 1 with the alloy head. From what I understand there is only minimal gain to increase compression beyond 10.5 and that would necessitate alcohol. When I decided to build the bike I based the build on the factory short stroke, but knew I ...

Re: ISDT/Competition Ariels

A little short stroke info.
A few years back I built a short stroke VH for classic racing. I did some research first, which included Vincent providing me with some of his information.
Generally to increase power you need to increase revs. One of the limiting factors with an engine is piston speed ...
