I would certainly use a washer of some description. Ariel did mention somewhere that to 'avoid needless repetition nuts and washers are not usually mentioned. Also with sheet metal items like this some allowance tends to be made to allow for a less than precision fit by the use of slotted holes etc ...

Tanks were painted by hand and eye and could vary by as much as an inch on each side of the tank! Your gearbox is a BA, just a foot change version rather than hand change, a common mod.

Yes with keyway in line with crankpin. There 3 timing side shafts 1150-32, 1150-35, 1150-36, watch out for alignment of oil hole and keyway. There are several more earlier ones but these are the ones for 1932 on vertical singles.

Ah! The 4G tends to suffer from the SQ4itus of seizing the rear cylinders, the cammy and MKI used to suffer head gasket failures. You should be OK with the same clearance all the way round.

The dims given were arrived by experiments carried out by Otto on his cammy who later travelled with me to the annual rally in the Isle of Man via Poland, The Baltics, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany The Netherlands and the UK before returning home to Wurzburg in Southern Germany.
