Pivoting Mudguards

Post by simon.holyfield »

Can I ask you chaps another huge favour?

I'm welding up myriads of cracks in the rear mudguard of my SQ4, which is of the one piece pivoting variety.

Could someone post a picture of the pivot? The stay on which my mudguard pivots is, I believe hopelessly bent, and I don't have the studs, bolts or spacers.

I also have a lot of holes which I don't understand, but when I find the correct number plate I can figure that out.

One thing puzzles me though, my holes are all in pairs. There should be a single one for the light cable, shouldn't there?
cheers

Hi Simon,
I am happy to post more photo's, but this should be a start.
The pivot bracket is basically straight where it leaves the top edge of the guard - and at the angle of the pivot lugs under the seat (see photo)
3 rivet holes for the pivot bracket (flat steel)
4 holes for the pillion seat, about 9" apart.
3 Holes for the number plate.
I have a hole behind the tail light for wiring in, and I have seen rivet holes down the right hand side of the guard for wiring clips. I'm not sure if these are original, but are 10" or so apart.

That's lovely thanks Brenton. I guess the lighting cable hole is right behind the light?

Also I have two very small holes, about 3/16", one above the other, at the very lowest point on the rear of the guard. I think from what I rememeber of your post on the number plate, last year, that you have those as well. Any idea what they are for?

Thanks once again.
cheers

Hi Simon, no problems - happy to help.
Here's the link to the earlier post. http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewt ... ?f=4&t=509
In that one, you can see the bottom bolt for the number plate.
If the holes are below that, my guess is a reflector or some kind of badge. Neither would be original. They may fit that BSA number plate holder you had?
I'm not sure if this model would have had an Ariel badge below the number plate, but this would obviously have holes like a tank badge.
Yep, the wiring on mine goes in directly behind the lamp.
