Re: Cable clip on steering head

Luis,
Good observation. I fitted mine facing down as that was how I had seen others on the forum BUT I found that when the handlebars were on full lock the cables were pinched against the bracket. I have just changed it to match the photos you posted and the cables are no longer pinched. Thankyou for the observation.

P.S I know the main loom is one the wrong side of the headstock ;) ...another job to put on the list
Cheers

Hi Luis,

on the foto you found the clip is fixed with two screws and they have added an extra clip to it. On my WNG frame i have the same fixation for the cable. My frame is from'42. In the picture you can see two WNG frames. The upper i used to rebuild my WNG The lower was the donor frame. Both have the two fixation holes and one the cable fixation.

My frame is Sept 1942 and also has the two screw holes on the right hand side.

I see that on Simons tank and the one in the museum the front right of the tank has a curved cut out just above the line of the ARIEL tank badge where the wiring loom cable, which appears to be enclosed in a rubber tube, goes. This tube is secured by the larger clip. The cutout looks as though it is there to provide clearance for this tube.

My tank does not have this cutout and looking at period photos I think I have found others with no cutout

Does anyone know when the cutout in the tank appeared or can say whether their tank has a cutout or not

Cheers

Well..... maybe my tank is not original to it's dispatch date if yours is ?

I notice that the two photos with the cut outs have the stick on Ariel badges, mine, and the ones I have found without the cutout appear to have the screw on badges. So maybe the change came about at the same time?
Does anyone know when the stick on badges came in?

Cheers

Hi Alan,
i have checked on a lot of photo's and saw that tanks have badges whitout cut out and tanks whitout badges with no cut out. My tank has badges whit no cut out but i am not sure its from the 40's. When i bought it it had the dark red collor on it from the 50's. The model is as i can see the same. Even the fixation and no fuel tank connection tube.

Who knows? Mine is from contract C12,450 and it has stick on badges.

By the way I finally got round to taking a picture of the other side of my frame:

No clip, but there is a hole and plenty of chafing so it's been there at some point.
cheers

I have it like this on Burney, I think the clip is original.
The cut out does not really line up because I've fitted higher rubber washers to clear the top of the 500 engine.
