Cable clip on steering head

Post by LuisPaz »

Take this photograph for example to ask if the clip on the wng is the same as the one in the photograph or is of another material and format?

Thanks in advance!

The ones on my W/NG, which I believe to be original, are much bigger than that.

You'll probably find something on my blog if you have time to look, but I'll get some specific pictures later for you.

Scrolling through these will yield something eventually :

The one in the photograph looks like the civilian type used prewar and therefore also in the early part of the war. They may just possibly have been enlarged for ease of maintenance later in the war but reverted to the type in the photo postwar as well.

The first photo is my VH and the clip is one that I made using the drawing in this post as a guide

http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewt ... cable+clip

Because the cables move slightly through the clip as the bars are turned I increased the width slightly and the raised edges are more pronounced so that they did not dig into the cables. Once it has been painted it will not be so noticeable :D

Cheers

This is mine Luiz - exactly the same as the one at the Motorcycle Museum you showed earlier.

I don't think there is one on the other side, I'll have to go and take a look as I can't find a picture that is close enough.
cheers

If you look at and enlarge the photo of my two bikes in http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewt ... 7&start=10 you will see that the electric cable is routed outside the rear fork tube and inside the front one. This keeps the electric cable nicely out of the way of harm such as the steering end stops and is the routing I believe was used by the works prewar. But running the electric cable between the fork legs like this means that you have to disconnect and later reconnect the electrics in the headlamp if you should want to change the fork girder. No doubt fork girders were changed quite often on W/NG models as the riders fell off during the war so the large diameter cable support makes all the sense in the world as it avoids the need to route the electric cable between the fork legs, so speeding fork girder changes.
