Decompression cable route

Post by EricBorg »

Does anyone have any clear pics of where the cable is supposed to route it’s way to the lever please.

I ordered and fit the correct cable from dragonfly but can’t seem to get it to find it’s way to the lever without being tight.

Thanks in advance

You've put it through the hole in the tank mount?
cheers

I did think that hole was for the cable BUT (I’ll get a pic tomorrow) my tank mount only has one hole, the cable can go in but no hole for it to come out on the front side.

I think I have mine through there. From there it goes forward between the girders, in a long loop up behind the headlamp and onto the handlebar. It doesn't go though the cable guide on the side of the headstock.

I'll get a picture later if I get a chance.

This is what I’m faced with on the tank mount, and yes I did check maybe the front holes had been welded up at some time but I’m pretty sure they haven’t..

Should I just drill a hole and be done with it??
What would YOU do??

Thanks again for the replies.

If there is no hole there, I'd route it over the tank mount and go up between the tank and the headstock from there.

Personally, I'd worry more about the choke/throttle cables. On my bike, there is very little room above the carburetter for a bend in the cable before you hit the bottom of the tank.

I have placed the cable in that left hole, but it does not slide easily, as well as the cable that I have a larger diameter than the original ...

See pics in another WNG post http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewt ... f=4&t=1368

Right tank mount hole .... what cable routing??

Thanks for the suggestion.

So what did you do to route the choke/throttle cable without it binding the tank......... what route did you take to the throttle?? this was going to be my next question :)

Put up with it so far! I haven't found a decent solution.

Sorry...

These pics show the cable routing on my VH but the cable route is the same on my WNG.
Throttle and choke cables
Throttle and choke cables
Clutch, magneto and decompressor

I am confident, in my mind, that none of the cables go through the holes in the front tank mounting bracket because a) if they do they do not line up correctly and b) they restrict the free movement of the cables when the bars are turned.

Simon, re your clearance issues with the throttle/choke would a slightly thicker rubber washer on the tank mounts lift the tank up and give you a bit more room?

Cheers
