That's the oil level, but in real live it's to high, a good level is halfway the bottem chain.

Your tankbolt should have a rubber spacer under the frame aswell and the thread of that bolt should be so short that it cann't penetrate the tank!!!

The TIN (steel) covers are late model and a bit hard to find. They are supposed to hold oil but might be even more difficult to achieve that than with the alloy ones. Your chain and the shock absorber on the crankshaft need oil or at least a shot of chain oil frequently with the engine idleing. Squirt some at the shock absorber too if you can't keep any in the chaincase. The hole you point out has a round head short screw in it with a fibre washer under it.. Nev

Has to have the thread right up to the head.. The chaincase oil level one,. Not the Tank ones. They only have about 1/2 " (12 mm) at the most.. Reverse the die so it stops suddenly from a full thread too nothing. Nev

It's the oil level indicator, but is too high to fill it to that point. Don't have it too long or the chain might clip it. I have no idea where you will get a thick gasket from to seal the two steel pressings. You gave a piece missing that allows the clutch to run dry, same as the alloy cases do. The clutch will run OK wet with corks and a light oil.. Nev
