Re: Full Face or Open Face Helmets for classic bikes
I used to ride open face or pudding basin but I was lucky enough to be wearing a full face when I went face first into a speed bump. FF only now.

I high sided / went face first during my first speedway race. I had one of those open face with bolt on chin guard and peak - like a motocross style. This may as well not have been there, so the result was some badly broken facial bones and a fair bit of bark removed.. It looked bad enough that no-one noticed the other, more major injuries - which is saying something, cos I'm not exactly Brad Pitt's twin brother.
So, anything like highway speed or distance and the full face comes out.

i plucked up the courage and bought myself an open face helmet, which i wore when taking VB to its Mot, i have to say the difference between this and full face one is quite marked......i am fully aware of the safety implications, but the ability to hear, and see and feel the wind in your face is tremendous and love it........although i doubt i was going much faster than 50mph......any faster then the full face would be worn.......there has to be some kind of trade off between being safely enclosed in a helmet and on the other hand having the ability to see and hear things a lot clearer, which is also a safety factor..........its a tricky one...........

About the hearing clearer I even wear earplugs in my fullface to prevent me from getting deaf.
All type of helmets make a lot of noise ,more then the motorbike.
By the way Nick you never rode behind a piglorry with an open face helmet I suppose ?, bon appetit
