Running In Guide

Post by simon.holyfield »

Seen this chaps?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Arie ... 0675.m4236

The 'Ariel' font on the cover looks authentic, but the text inside suggests it is an over-printed suppliers publication. Perhaps some Ariel supplied to customers on request?

Might be interesting to someone.
cheers

Judging by the back page which has reference to 'Dag Colloidal graphite' on every answer ,it is one of their publications

What if this seller has found a box full books and printed Ariel on the front, there is no Ariel link inside :D

I would imagine Achesons produced them and either overprinted the Ariel logo or gave them to Ariel to do. I wouldn't actually think colloidal graphite was an ideal substance to use when running in myself....

Interestingly, Achesons still exist as a subsidiary of ICI and produce something called Aquadag. DAG means Deflocculated Acheson Graphite apparently......

Yes, it looks to be an advertising brochure.

But we're told on the back page that colloidal graphite "is so fine that it is used for injection into the breathing tubes of mosquitos". Irrelevant trivia to be sure, but does anyone know why someone would bother injecting graphite into the breathing tubes of mosquitoes?

I have possibly the same publication with Royal Enfield logo s......Its genuine cause it came with some other books like Dunlops caring for tyres, and a ACU booklet on road safety....with a 1954 Connie.....I never knew what "dag" meant before....there was "oildag" and also "molydag".....both great anti seizure compunds.....and it has the same trivia about mosquito s.
