+ve or -ve earth?

Post by Michael.Brown »

Hi all,

Starting to check a few things out on my new purchase.

My W/NG appears to be +ve earth but does it matter as far as the dynamo is concerned which polarity is earth or is it irrelevant to the dynamo?Looking at my 1940's manual it seems to suggest they were -ve earth.

It doesn't matter. You can reverse the polarity of the dynamo easily if you have to.

If it's working, I'd leave well alone - especially if you have any electronics (like a modern regulator) on board.
cheers

There's only a few around the 50's I think went for positive earth. If it's working it won't make any problems unless someone put's the battery in the other way. Nev

Looking at the receipts that came with it, suggests that it's fitted with an Electronic +ve Voltage Regulator from Draganfly part no. A28-92 although I have yet to confirm that.

I have charged the battery and re-connected it with +ve earth. All lights work except Speedo lamp and the horn is not working properly but I think I can sort that out easily enough. Ammeter shows discharge with lights on.

I will check out the Dynamo next and I have one or two bad electrical connections to remake. Other than that it seems pretty good. :)
