Although a little different, after my open heart surgery I was advised not to drive for at least six weeks, and not to ride a bike for three months.
The essential part is to get your consultant, once you are advised you are fit to drive and/or ride again, to write to your GP confirming this, so there is something on your medical record stating you are fit to drive/ride. I would also let your insurance company know in advance about the op, and let them know when you have been stated as fit to drive.
These days you need to be careful that everything is documented!

Hello Wali it depends on the sort of operation with or without cement and other factors ,friend of mine about 8 to 10 weeks no driving in a car, but your doctor will tell you anyway ,so listen what he has to say

I had my first total hip replacement 5 1/2 years ago and had the other side replaced a couple of months ago. No pain - You will up and walking the following morning but won't be allowed to drive for 6 weeks (I think the insurance companies have set this time limit in conjunction with the medical profession). I am now able to ride the bike again and do everything normally after less than 3 months but it is extremely important not to sit too long and to do regular exercise (walking is probably the best exercise as it builds the strength back up gently) to build the muscle strength back up. Your surgical team will explain it all to you. Nothing to worry about and good luck with the op. You'll soon be up and about again.

Thanks again people. Sounds good on the pain front but I am not so happy with 6 weeks of not driving. Leg gave way (as it does 40 times a day) whilst walking down stairs at school yesterday. At the time I was talking to two Y11 girls, Mumtaz took hold of my arm and helped me down to the next landing. Bless.
Says something about the club membership that the longest thread on our forum is about wonkie legs!

Wali, we all look forward with great anticipation to your break dancing demonstration on Saturday evening. Will it be the usual routine with the parrot and Gladdis the Mesopotamian hooker?
