I guess many of you saw this bike on eBay (http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewt ... =10&t=7088)...I ended up winning it, which came as a bit of a surprise, since I put in what I considered to be a low ball bid, but maybe I've over-valued it. Too late now.
And this probably brings my 1938 VB project to an abrupt, and possibly permanent, halt (http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewt ... =40&t=6501).
Yesterday, I travelled to Kent to pick it up and finally see it in the flesh. Have to say, I'm rather pleased with it. In the link at the top, it was suggested the front hub might be WD because of the speedo drive and the rear hub might be from a post-war tele etc etc, but having got the bike home and poured through the 1939 (yes, 1939 not 1938 as listed), this bike was obviously bought with all those optional extras like plunger frame, detachable rear wheel (4430-39), chrono speedo driven from front hub (4081X-38). It has the 1939 flimsy centre stand (5500-39) and the 1939 toolbox with the knob neither in the centre nor the corner (6555-39). It also came with a couple of boxes with a spare BA box, very good cylinder head and large chromed petrol tank. BTW: the engine turns over fine.
The photos are below....I suspect I'm going to be asking lots of questions...please bear with me .
