Valve lifter question

Lots of nooby questions here, sorry for that!

While I`m messing about with my bike, I thought I would also adjust the valve lifter.

Only problem is that as soon as the adjuster arm touches the little tap on the rocker arm it wont budge.

Is there a possibility my bike is fitted with a stronger valve spring or something? the valves move up and down as they should when I crank the motor but I cant move them with a large screwdriver, let alone the valve aduster. They are realy hard.

Looks like the pin on the mechanism has squared itself off so it sticks on the corner.

That was a little supprise.

I filed down the edge a little and my valve lifter now works!

It was quite soft, maybe an aftermarket part?

I`m pretty sure it was flat on the bottom because its been wrongly adjusted and I think its been smaked by the rocker arm constantly.

It was re-registerd in the early eighties, so I imagine it was restored back then but been off the road the last 12 years. I`m not sure why though because apart from the massive leak it had it runs great

There are 2 wrongs on the youtube picture; first there should be a oilstop washer before the main plug, second the angle of the lever must be before top and pressed just after top of the cable line.
So the cable is adjusted to that and not the otherway around, that's what could go wrong .

Yes, Mine had the oilstop washer and the lever on my handlebar didnt have enough throw compared to the cable so I shortend it a little and just used a solderless nipple.

Strewth it is me! I did that ages ago for my mate over in Texas who was having trouble. After watching it he's probably still having trouble

I thought it was very helpfull mate !

I can stop my bike now without having to pull of the plug cap
