Thanks for that, Paul. Your knowledge is a treasure. I was worried it was 1938 and the rest of the bike was going to be 1939 (with a non panel tank). Why? Because I have a good one and I hate the panel tanks. This is going to be grandad's "utility" bike , made from what has been laying around for YEARS, (more than I want to think about) with sidestand, low seat height, 2 x 19" wheels (WM 3 and 4.00 tyre on the rear 350 on the front.) 500 VH engine BAP box. (long spline on clutch end type). It's getting a bit harder to get this stuff now. It won't have to be a concourse winner either. (I've never entered any bike I owned in one). Just a good workman-like reliable ARIEL Rigid framed VH Ex pipe upswept at rear No pillion seat.. Arguably Ariel's best all round model. (To replace my faithful W/NG, so I won't have to ring it's neck to keep up with some "speedy" types on hills) on those longer rallies. Nev
