My 1951 NH Red Hunter Project

I have just acquired a 1951 NH. Telescopic forks and rigid frame. It has been in a barn for 30 years and a lot of the ancillaries are missing. However he main parts are all present and the numbers for frame, engine and gearbox are all correct for the year. It is beyond the "oily rag" stage and I have bought it with a plan for a full restoration. This will be my first motorcycle restoration. I'm reassured to see that the AOMCC seems to be a thriving group with good spares availability. I am sure I will need some help along the way! Have taken lots of the compulsory "pre-restoration" photographs" and complied a list of missing parts. I will try and update this, as a bit of a "blog" at stages along the way, in case this is of interest to others in the future.

I'm also building a 51 NH, except it's from scratch. It all started with a bottom end that I bought at the 50th AOMCC annual rally in Biggleswade. I then had to find a frame then a, then a, .......... Be careful - Ariels are infectious and when you have one, well, they all look nice!

Keep us all posted on progress. You will have a lot of fun and its a nice machine!

I am amazed that bikes like yours are still turning up after all these years. Yours looks as though all the important parts are there, what a great find.

It would be really helpful to see more photos of it 'as found' as they will no doubt be of great help to others restoring similar examples.

Some of you may have noticed that I have set up a section within the VMCC forum as a directory of members bike pictures. It has a picture of each side with a post title in a standard format, so that it can be easily searched.
