That's a nice 49 ? Twin there that would be right up my street Paul
1948 NH, BSA D10 SPORTS. 1953 VHA, 1951 KH rigid project.

Rigid, Plunger or Swingarm, they all are good lookers.
but a swingarm will outperform the earlier ones when it comes to roadholding .

Only once in a while they come by, but not that often... Patience is the key word I think. Build one from scatch is a option but can be a expensive job! I know, because I once build 1948 ish 350 Ariel tele rigid from scratch... :(

I'am not to convinced about that Vincent. Although certainly all have a charm of it's own, the early ones appeals the most on me when it comes to looks, again in my personal opinion. Roadholding can be a asset if you are a roadburner, which I'am not. Yes a swingarm rides with more convenience that’s for sure :)

Lee - there are a couple of KH road-test articles in the AOMCC doc repository that might interest you (although one is for a swing-arm model so that's probably disqualified !)

your bike looks very nice.
There are bargains still out there. Although I have never been a fan of the twins, this week I became aware of a near complete 54KH for sale, and the sale included a near complete engine. Unfortunately no cylinders or magnetos. But the asking price of $500 dollars was too much of a temptation. I phoned a friend in Brisbane who collected it for me. Now I just have the 1000km drive to collect it. But in my case it will be a long term project that I will not commence for a few years.

David, congratulations! that is a real bargain, despite you have to collect it 1000 KM away!! :D
For sure a KG/KG can have their own issues (wet sumping), but when you sort that out it is a reliable motorcycle. Make sure the bottom end is 100% sound, in other words the bush and the shells and put on a good oilfilter. I know a Dutch member who did quite some mileage with a swingarm KH attached to sidecar without any problems.
