The KH project
Made some very little progress on the KH project, and still a long way to go...
Also looking for the right rare brake pedal, any chance?
Cheers, Paul

Re: The KH project
Thank you Lee.
Stil got a lot to do... wiring and timing electronic ignition, compete primary side (including clutch and chains) all cables, oil lines, speedo (absent) and so on. But not in a hurry!
Regards, Paul

Re: The KH project
Good looking bike. Rigids are rare here in NZ. Don't forget to put a tap in the oil feed pipe to avoid wet sumping. Draganfly have a nice oil tap warning transfer for the tank top. My KH has one so I won't forget to turn it on.

Re: The KH project
Gearbox, oil tank and petrol tank are all new in 52, so it's 52 or later

Re: The KH project
The year numbers are all listed. Easy to reference. The oil tank is a unique to the twin design with different oil return. In early 1952 the gearbox stayed as a BAP till end February I believe on the change over to GB some BAP boxes had no numbers stamped on them. Early ones had a CP Box, smaller finned heads and barrel, different pushrods and rocker adjustment and there's a change in the timing chain tensioner in the later ones. Some modification of earlier models might be looked into in regard to the chain tensioner. Some "experts" might fill you in on that one . It was covered a few years ago on this forum. The frames are made of thinner wall thickness tube and some exhaust pipes have a little kink in the part near the port. (hard to reproduce). Triumph tiger 100 pistons are nearly the same, only a slight gudgeon size difference to adjust. Alloy rods need to be good condition.(like ALL alloy rods). You can remove the rods with crankcase in the frame as the nuts are at the top.
.Important.. Clean out the crankshaft oil galleries the same as SQ4 . They sludge up. Nev

Re: The KH project
I bought this project, or bitsa, with three more or less complete engines; 1948, 1952 and 1954. None of them matching in numbers to the frame because frame was used as a substitute frame for a 1954 KH. I guess it's an early 50ties (with the small side stand). I did some research into KH frames an came aware there where quite some alterations through the years. The rest of the parts where '52ish, so I built it up in the region of that year and choose to recondition the 1952 engine. The engine is now like new with regrind crankshaft journals and new bigend shells (0.010''!), new main bearing bush (yes line reamed!), new valves, valve guides and springs, cilinder rebore, new pistons 0.20'' etc. etc. I do not mind it's a bitsa and realy love the looks of a twin in rigid frame
