KH500 camshaft modification.

Post by jj.palmer »

It states in the workshop manual for the above that engines after serial no TE1258 were fitted with modified camshafts which I am led to believe was the fitting of "quetening ramps" to the cam profile.

However, having now read a Val Page interview report, which can be found in the clubs Document Repository under the secton Articles titled 1951 KH Article-Motor Cycling, which I assume refers to engines prior to TE1258 as it states a .002 inch rocker clearance and not the later .005/.008, it states that "quetening ramps" were also fitted to those engines.
Quotation from the report - "Yes, the cams have quetening ramps over 25 degrees of crank rotation, during both valve opening and closing" (last page, left hand column, approx halfway down opposite valve spring free lenth).

If this is correct, that the cams had "quetening ramps" both before and after TE1258, then what was the camshaft modification refered to in the manual, can anyone enlighten me.

Regards,
John P.
