There is a small single-cylinder Stuart-Turner engine that wasn't in the boat, but may have come from it.

I haven't seen it, but I'll pop across the road with a camera and see what its like .

The motor is a Stuart Turner P5M, a water-cooled 2-stroke Petrol with forward / Neutral / Reverse gearbox.

It turns and the gears select but it needs a fettle and its missing its magneto.

One of our members is interested and has "First Dibs" on it.

It was common to remove the magneto and keep it in the house. It only fits one way on the coupling and took little time to refit it. It probably has all plain bearings and will run if the crankcase is flushed out and reoiled thoroughly There's usually an oil sump in the bottom although it's a two stroke. My neighbour says he saw what he thought was a magneto amongst the accumulated bits and pieces (Charlie (deceased) was into classic bikes, classic cars, boats & building renovation, but doesn't appear to have completed any restorations - there were heaps of unknown parts everywhere). He will have another look today.

Yes, there is a dipstick under the motor and there is oil in it. I wondered if it was a side-valve but the exhaust 'huffs' on every revolution so I guess its a two-stroke. I assumed the dipstick was therefore for the gearbox (?).

There are youtube clips on the internet showing restored examples running and very nice they are too.

I'd love it, but its a hobby too far at the moment .

thanks Simon and other contributors, Simon can you give me the length of the hinged part perhaps? the illustrated guard could be a Panther part, looks a bit this way, kind regards

In one of the pictures, Richard, where you see the tape at the very end of the mudguard (is it the second pic?) showing a shade under 15", the other end of the tape is on the hinge centreline and the tape is hugging the mudguard - so that is the length of the hinged part.

I found an Ariel Mudguard to put in my W/NG and the final mobile part is missing. I will need those measurements too!
