Post by Vincent.vanGinneke »

Is 7/32 x 32 the correct thread on the front brake rod?
If not what is it ?

Vincent,
7/32 x 32 is correct. I purchased a tap/die to make up my own as the original brass T nut was thrashed.

I'm sure my reproduction brake rod is smaller than that.

Are the original ones 7/32" all the way to the top?
cheers

Hi Simes,
Yes, the lower end of the front brake rod, milled flat on both sides to fit the brake arm, is threaded 7/32 x 32 tpi.
Unfortunately, having the 2 flats means you cannot chase the threads with a die.

I have since removed the chrome and painted the rod black.
Making a new brass t-nut tightened the assembly up nicely.

Recieved a quote for one handtap set 7/32 x 32 ...........198,46 Euro !
Must be very good quality, perhaps to good for the one nut I want to make.

It must be the wrong place to buy from.
I bought the same size of tap, but I can't remember if it was from Tracy Tools or Unithread.
The price was quite different.

I was wrong about this. The repro one I have from Drags measure up to be about the right size - it's painted too, so i can't be too accurate.
cheers
