Yet more questions! Barely a day goes by without me writing something on this forum. Here is today's question:
I have several of those flat sheet spanners Ariel stamped out for adjusting fork stem nuts and hub nuts.
The W/NG is the first Ariel I have had with taper roller bearings in the wheels and I was keen to see these spanners in action. Referring to the manual, they fit neatly on the rear hub bearing nuts, but the front nuts are much smaller.
Am I missing something? I expected the nuts to be the same dimension across flats, though I note the front spindle is smaller than the rear?

Simon, you are right. The front axle has a smaller diameter compared to the rear axle, and so are the nuts

So the tool kit spanners don't fit? I'm surprised the War Department put up with that. I wonder what they did in the field?Paul Slootheer wrote:Simon, you are right. The front axle has a smaller diameter compared to the rear axle, and so are the nuts

Re: W/NG Hub Nuts
Thanks John, I think I must have messed up somewhere. I have several of those G1/55 & G1/55A spanners, and I thought that I had verified that even the small end does not fit the front hub nuts.
I'll go back to the garage and get the steel rule out.
