Ongoing Footrest Dilemma

Folks,

The parts book for my 1942 W/NG tells me my footrests should have rubbers.

The part number for the metal bit is 5383-29 but the illustration is not the same as the ribbed footrest Drags sell under this part number.

I think my footrests should be plain and more round in section than the flat ribbed 'military' one, something like 5393-46 perhaps?

Simes, I would not know!
I assume that they used rubbers on footrests until it was ordered to cut down on the use of rubber.
From then on the ribbed footrests where used, well,.. that's what I think that happend.
I dont think footrests without rubbers and no ribbing where fitted by the works .
Maybe when the rubber fell of and there where no more new ones but in general I think it's either the one or the other.

Oh, btw, no problem to grind those ribs from the one I have !

So its time for a new post in the ongoing footrest saga.

I bought two 5383-46 footrests from Drags, and very nice they are too, because if they fitted the singles in 1946 I'm sure they should look the part on my W/NG, and they are made for rubbers.

Ignore the socket, that is on temporary spacing duty. someone has cut the taper of the offside (5375-29) footrest mount.

The footrests on my SQ4, for comparison:

Does anyone know how long a 5375-29 footrest mount is supposed to be?

Easy question chaps. Should both of my W/NG engine plates have pegs to stop my footrest mounts rotating?

And the next question is, since one of my engine plates has a hole, and no peg, is it possible to remove the rear plate (to replace the peg) without removing:
1. The engine?
2. The gearbox?
3. The oil tank?

Sleeping on it, I have realised that to remove the RH engine plate is quite a problem - being new to singles, it hadn't occurred to me that the magneto platform was welded to it!

Hi Simon, I might be able to help. I have a footrest mount that has a pin in it rather than the slot and is approx. 5 inches long. The taper is a little off centre but should sort out OK. I picked this up when looking for a footrest for my 46 SQ4 and had to buy the set. I still need the 5375-29 with the slot in it so perhaps we could swap. The set came with a shorter version approx. 3.5 inches long but had the footrest welded to it. Cheers, John

my nearside footrest is slightly back from the offside one so they are not exactly in line with each other, there is also a 'R' pin in the n/side one are both characteristics normal? kind regards

The nuts on each side are on the same stud, so should align unless it is bent. There's no R clip as standard.
