W/NG Carburettor
Folks,
I swapped my float bowl to the nearside of the carburetter. I expected it to be a cranked float bowl, and for it to end up vertical; actually it's not cranked at all and is still not vertical. Is this normal?
There may be a prize for the most inventive suggestion for the loop on the tappet cover!

Re: W/NG Carburettor
Chaps, I now have a 15 degree Amal 1J float bowl. Can you advise what the float height should be set to please?
cheers

Re: W/NG Carburettor
The original float needle only has one groove and the mixing chamber nut you have at the bottom of the main carb body is the correct one also. Barring a lot of wear it will be OK. The tickler should hit the float about 1/2 way depressed. Nev

Re: W/NG Carburettor
According to the parts lists, this 1J Amal float bowl is correct for all but the very earliest W/NGs:
Secondly, it looks like the pipe attaches directly to the bottom of the float bowl using a nut & nipple, rather than a banjo. Is this right? The banjo appears to be for the very earliest top feed float bowls, Amal 2N?cheers

Re: W/NG Carburettor
Simon, as far as I know thats all correct. The fuel pipe on the carb. of my W/NG is also atached directly on the bottom end of the float bowl with a nut and a nipple. If you want I can post a photograph tomorrow.

Thanks Paul. Would you post a picture? I need to make up my fuel pipe, maybe this weekend.

Re: W/NG Carburettor
You can still buy the bowls bare or complete, new. I think SOME W/NG's had top feeding bowls. Most seem otherwise with a straight nut and nipple with a bent pipe. I don't know what exact shape they were. I'd guess a curly bit half way down ( a coupla turns at right angle and a "U" bend at the bottom, similar to 30's models. I have to make some so I'd like to know. Mine currently have a piece of fuel line rubber with copper pipe ends. Nev
