Engine plates

Does anyone have a close up pic with measurement of the engine plates as fitted for the steel primaries? Apparently the foot peg holes are off from standard. Anxious to get this right so that the engine can go in.

I think my friend has it somewhere. I'll check with him. He's out at the moment. Its only 1/2" different but can't remember which way.

I just ran out to check mine, as it still has the empty cases in while I was checking some other stuff (before breaking it all down for paint).

I'm good.. my alloy cases line up with my plates single hole !

I'm with Alan at the moment and he says it went up 1/2" but also across towards the rear wheel about 1/4" he also said that it depends on which side of the bike you look at it . Seriously though he fitted the tin case in position and pushed the long stud through square till it marked the engine plate where the hole needs to be. Wheeew

I only have one set with dual holes. They aren't far apart. One of them is the standard position. I will compare steel primary drive cases with aluminium to see if the position varies. The engine plates originally came with a 44 model, which would have been steel cases ex factory, but were not fitted as I obtained it. That doesn't prove the "other" hole was used though. Nev, that sounds like a lot of fiddling around for you, but so worth it! As there seems to be more W/NGs being restored lately, your information will be invaluable. This would settle the question for all time.

Only the primary side engine plate has the extra hole, correct?

Wade, Both holes on the plates are on a different centre as the long bolt passes all the way through on both sides.

I have asked Alan to try and get a picture from the timing side. You will also have to move the small pegs that the footrest support tubes locates on. That's the bit that has the taper on the end for the foot rest.

The two holes actually intersect (as original, no wear or modding) They are both equidistant from the pin that stops the footrest moving. Both plates have the same 2 holes (which makes sense) The top one is extra and is unique to some W/NG's. The bottom one is the standard position. Nev

Here is a picture of the primary side plate. Does this look correct? Anyone have a pic of the timing side?
