You had me stumped for a short time with that one Jerry but I think it would be early 1973 when the final shape of the petrol tank was being determined. the bike would almost certainly have been the prototype. The fuel tanks were made by the late Don Woodward but his son carries on the business and has sent me photos of a tank he still has. You will note a wooden strip down one side of the underneath of the tank. If you take this tank, including the wooden strip and apply the wooden strip to both sides you end up with the final shape of the petrol tank. This is why I think the date would be early 1973 or so when development was almost finished and production about to start.

Could be. I always liked green and I remember thinking if I could ever afford one I would have it in green like the bike I saw.

Advice needed please. The Healey has BMC pistons which have a smaller gudgeon pin than Ariel ones. Hence I need to bush the small ends of my new Club con-rods.

What interference fit would the panel recommend for a phosphor bronze bush going into the alloy con-rod? Diameter is approx 11/16" or 17.44mm

At the recent Annual Rally, one or two members were kind enough to enquire about progress on the Healey. The answer is that progress is there, but slow. However, recent work on the forks enabled me to use a technique for removing bushes which I had known of for years but had never found an excuse to use.

The top fork bush (Metal Profile forks) is Teflon lined and pressed into the slider:

So, you make up a fairly tight fitting plug, fill the fork slider with oil, insert the plug and hit with a hammer:

The hydraulic action of the oil under pressure from the hammer blows extracts the bush - if somewhat messily !
