Re: Olive drab...
Hello Graham, I did the frame with a brush. Mudguards, petrol tank etc. with a paint roller. The only parts I took off was the rear wheel and the front mudguard... Yes a lot of work, but I did'nt want to dismantle the whole bike. Today almost 99% ready!

Allright Graham, nearly there. Want to change the mufler for an Ariel one in the future. I make this one dull silver. I like the result in terms of colour, there are multiple grades of olive drab but this one realy suites me.

That's looking very nice, nice shade, I've got a chrome exhaust on mine and I'm going to get it sand blasted an spray it black.
What paint did you use, cellulose?

Re: Olive drab...
Take care with this sandblasting, (glassbead blasting)
Chrome is a very thin layer, before you know it you are on to the nickel, if there is any.....
Dont use more then 2 Atm. and keep the nozzle well away from the object. (+ 30cm)
It takes a bit longer but gives a better result.
But if you want to paint it black that is not a issue ofcourse.

Re: Olive drab...
Once the chrome starts to peel with blasting you have a mess. It can be removed with hydrochloric acid and the nickel will remain unaffected. I believe the original military ARIEL mufflers were a Burgess, Same company as made them for Scott's .They are not slightly flared as some civvie ones were. Nev

Re: Olive drab...
Hello Graham,
Yes I used cellulose paint. Not very good for your health by the way. There's someone overhere in Holland who restores old army vehicles (trucks, cars and motorcycles as well) and also sells a variation of army paints. There where more sorts of army green/olive drab, but also Desert, Canadian Brown, RAF Blue etc. A very complete assortment at a fair price, mostly in 1/2 or 1 liter cans.
