Tank for Burney
This week I got a replacement tank for Burney.
Started cleaning it in search of a census number but found......Norton colors !
Well....probably a post war civilianised version.
Paint job does look professional, there is no green under the silver and the tank side panels show a metallic red.
I know Naylor & Root sold 'Polychromatic Bluebird Blue' civilianised W/NG's post war.
Does this silver tank lead to another re-seller like them ?

Re: Tank for Burney
Good tank find, Vincent! Looks like you may have a bluebird. That is such an interesting advertisement. It is the only one I've seen with the factory Vokes air filter fitted. Others have them on their machines but most likely added them. I am also using a reproduction. Have you seen any other from factory pictures? Would be great to know exactly what the carb fittings were for the flex-tube. Don't know a single person who has the correct one. Can you see any details in the ad? I am using a 276 carb and have found a couple of fittings that I think will work but am waiting for the engine to go in the frame to try them out.
Everything was dirt cheap in those days. Just to chrome the headlamp rim and exhaust system these days would be very expensive. This one even comes with 6 months of gas rations .

When I was at the National Motor Cycle museum I took this picture of a picture on the wall. Does this help?

Hello Wade,
I dont know much about these Vokes filters, haven't seen one on a W/NG over here.
What I do have is about 2mtr lenght of this stuff: It's stainless and it can bend, inside diameter 1 1/2 inch.
Took it of my MB508D , it was the exhaust of the heating system.
Would this be the correct hose ?

Thanks for asking Vincent. Hope I don't take as long to put it together as I spent collecting the bits. 4 years!
The 400,000 pic is indistinct but the tank does look Ariel. Is that what it says on the side? Can't see the engine at all.
That tube of yours will do the trick as it has the correct ID. Keep your eye out for an original carb to filter casting as you are far more likely to find one in Europe.

Looking at the gearbox and petrolcap it's more like a Triumph 3HW.wade.edwards wrote:The 400,000 pic is indistinct but the tank does look Ariel. Is that what it says on the side? Can't see the engine at all.

Yes, looks like you are correct , Adrie. For one thing, W/NGs always have the Census number painted above the badge. Also, the marque name is too long for Ariel.
