Ian, do you not think a 936 is too large for a vh, you may be better with a 930.

I have a later type 276 presently fitted. Without going back outside to have a look I do believe the float has no angle as the intake is straight back like a 1929/30 F. My thoughts were to take photos with measurements and send to Amal just to see if they might have something that would work.

Alan I did have a look at that Flame Trap but I cannot fit due to the tight space unless I move the carb forward but then the float bowl hits the Generator body .

Dave That should have read 626 yes it will fit but again the pancake filter will not.
As Fall winds down I will have all winter to sort this issue out and hopefully by spring have a solution or not

The bowl I have here is about 1/2" longer from the carb than standard and in very good condition. It's the only one I have seen. Nev

The Amal butterfly valve carby fitted to some stationary motors used the long bowl.The common application I have seen is the Howard single and v twin.Regards John.

Some good news.
Thanks to Nev's Post about the 1/2 longer float bowl and John stating it might be off a stationary motor put me in the right direction and have bought one .This means I can now move the carb forward and fit the Flame Trap.
Also discovered I had no compression.The Exh was good but the Intake was tight.By rotating the Tappet/lifter the clearance came back.So I am assuming my tappet has a worn spot.

The fact that the inlet valve was open slightly may well have been a primary factor in your backfire.

That could be, on the model you have. Do you have another follower? Nev

A bent pushrod or lifter will also cause variable clearance.Regards John.

Hi Alan.Yes I do beleive that would have been the reason for the flame exiting the carb.
I do have another Tappet/lifter coming.
The followers have been replced and it still tightens.

John I don't have the original pushrods they were MIA when I bought the bike 30 odd years ago.
I run straight rods threaded at one end to thread into the Tappets.
Although I am going to modify this soon.
