Perhaps the W/NG is such a good bike that people tend to hold on to them and as a consequence they dont come on the market so often?

It's got the contract numbers on the rear guard' which would aid in the dating of it. May be the steel primary drive later one. Thanks for the Link. regards Nev. You up early?

9 o'clock in the morning over here, not so very early!
Yes it has these brass plates, but they only say something about the part they are fitted to...and even then !
You may have noticed that it's held together by large Metric bolts & nuts, that the front mudguard is plastic, the gearbox is AJS/M(notice open layshaft end,that's the wrong sign) , toolboxes and chainguards gone, no claxon, handlebar gear, battery platform, brake linkages, engine plate covers,bashplate, and the complete primary drive side.
Original parts are , as you already mentioned, rather hard to find, solution will be to spend some money on India parts.
So....after a while this W/NG will resurface looking all nice and tidy with a price tag in the region of 8000,- ? + ?

Gregory I recently aquired a W/NG from Belgium which fits in the same engine number sequence (3838>6149) as the one you mentioned. As Adrie stated this is late 1940 early 1941. I would not be surprised if mine came from the same batch and was left in Belgium as war surplus.
Nev do not know if there's a register about surviving W/NG's, but if not it is a good idea to start one! According to The Classic Motorcyle issue december 2004 not many survived the war and those who did where civilianised and mostly suffered a short and not merry life...

Some time back I got the impression there were a lot in Belgium. A friend got me the "tin" cases for one I have from there. It's a 1944 model came from India and is a bit sad but will come good. Another I have has always been a runner since about 1995 and it came from merry England and it's the only one I know running regularly in this country. There's a picture of it on the Files AOMCC uk (here) somewhere. I recommend them as a good all round economical high ground clearance bike that you can restart while sitting on the seat. Nev
