ariel motorcycle my great father

Bonjour a tous, pardonner moi si mon anglais n'est pas trés bon !
I come from Belgium and I know research, the motorcycle model of my grand father

here are my information:
-my grand father spoke to me of a 500cc motorbike tumbled (but I'm not sure).
-I believe my say have repainted
-I say it this motorcycle belonged to an Englishman who came to Belgium during the liberation in 1945 + -
-I found the purchase documents of an engine, but not sure it was for this bike ....
-I have a photo

My dream would be to found the same motorcycle

The engine nr. is not all there but if this is the number than it's made November 1940.

There is not much to go on but looking at the history your best chance is to find it in Belgium.

Looking at the motorcycle, the picture could be as late as 1955-60 and is still 350cc.

Hello Gregory,

Thanks for placing the nice picture with your Grandfater on a Ariel.
The Ariel is a model W/NG it was a ex-Army motorbike.
The number '5677' was probably the engine number and it should have been BH5677.
Very small change to find this Ariel (or parts from it!) but you never know....
This forum is a good starting point!

If you Google Ariel W/NG you will find a lot of similar Ariels.

One very tiny flaw ....the regulator shield is reversed,
yes I know, 'douze points' for this anorak.

A good starting point would be to become a member of a classic motorcycle club in your region and to go to their meetings and autojumbles.
Ask around at jumbles , talk to stall holders and try to find out who owns a Ariel in your part of Belgium.

It's unfortunately not mine Vincent, it belongs to the Norfolk Motorcycle Museum. I'll get a picture from the other side next time I'm there.

I did try to buy one recently, from a dealer in Italy - you may remember some questions I posted with pictures of a retubed rear frame, which put me off.

Seeing pictures of Burney, though, makes me think I was being a bit of a wimp!

A mate of mine got keen on one I have (and HE doesn't ride any British bikes) so I have been looking for one for him, but John (Nash Webmaster ) reckons they are getting a bit scarce, over your way. They made about 39,000 so what have you folks done with them all? We never had them here (Australia) in any number. The Navy chucked the three or so, they had overboard somewhere and I've managed a few NOS parts (and I mean a few as in not many) over many years. Nev

More then a few Ariels ended like in the picture and where lost.....
