It does sound good. That's essentially all the chrome bits on your KH, by the look of it.

Posted both ways? How do you establish the price, mail them the bits and they call with a price?

Yes, I sent it up with Hermes (I've used them for a while, cheap and seem to get the job done), when they receive it they look at it all and give an estimate, then they call you when it is done, take a card payment over the phone and post it back to you. They told me that now they are looking at a 4-6 month waiting list, because people are panicking due to the talk of banning chrome plating.

Some small progress this weekend, largely because I spent yesterday sorting out the front mudguard on the VH and refitting, and tidying the garage. Much easier to work in a clean and tidy environment!

I have started rebuliding the plungers, but I'm short a set of decent springs so all halt until I get a set.

I am very happy with the original Lucas altette horn I bought on eBay and have fixed and restored. I fitted it because it seemed like the best place to keep it!

I got some plunger springs .. unaware of whether they are solo or sidecar ....
Also got a few other KH duplicates ..

swap for something KH .. oil pipe unions on the engine casing ?

Also for painting numberplates.
Print out the numbers to scale.
put a series a small holes (using an awl or something) along the lines
blu-tack to surface and paint roughly along the holes/lines.
voila - dotted lines to scale to paint to.

If you send a list of bits you are after I'm quite happy to look at what duplicates I might have, any set of springs is better than the bent and badly worn single spring I currently have!
I know that the previous owner had a box of springs too so not quite sure where to go with that one - but I am short a plunger brake pedal?

Haven't made much progress of late, but had booked today off after returning from the LDR, so I was finally able to pick up the mudguard blank as modified to make it match the original, knackered one.

I'm really impressed with the work, just need to make it fit and paint it now!

Good bracket and position for the Altette.

Sometimes a 'L' shaped (front) bracket is used there and fixed to the cast ear near it.
Don't, as the ear will break after a while because of vibration by the weight of the Altette while riding.
Also makes for a interesting moment if that happens on the move with you in the saddle....

Rob,
I'm very interested in the work done on the rear guard.

Was the guard entirely blank when you got it or did it have the rear end already shaped?

I'd be keen to see more photos of it before you paint it, since I got a complete blank from Drags and any pointers in finishing it will be most welcome. I've cut out and put a piece in to clear the chain guard on my VH (got the blank from Armours), but have yet to shape the rear end.....

Keith,

I bought the blank guard from drags, and the workshop I sent it to finished the end for me, so I'm afraid I don't know how it was done, but It was done by Wilkinsons Coachbuilders in derby, usually deal with Aston martins.

I'll post some more photos once I've test fitted it in the frame.

I fitted my plunger springs today, gratefully received from Dave Owen at the ldr last weekend.

This tool for compressing plunger springs was amongst the specialist tools I acquired last year from Ralph Hawkins' widow, Bea.

I really wonder how I would have done it without! Great idea, does anyone else have something similar?
