It is difficult to see in your photos, but are you sure the dimpling in the new wheels are the same as in the old ones?

I'm not certain, I'm going on trust that central wheel did them right and referring to the photos I took - it did take two tries to get it right in building though, I put the rim on the wrong way around the first time I built up the brake side.

The old rims are clearly dimpled as Ariel did with 3 dimples on one side of the centerline and the 4th on the other side. I'm not sure about the new ones, but they seem to be dimpled with every second on one side of the center and the others on the other side.

I think, it is a pity, that most Ariel, which are getting new rims, are getting the wrong ones. They were made in that way for a reason.

So after the rear wheel went together so easily it has taken two evenings and a serious amount of surprisingly creative bad language to put the front together. Trueing after I have put in bearings, not looking forward to that!

I also received a nice lot of goodies from acme stainless last week, and couldn't resist putting a few bits on the frame over the weekend

I haven't achieved a great deal this weekend, just trued the front wheel, done a bit of alloy polishing and restored the front numberplate, which I have really enjoyed doing, sometimes the little detail jobs are really rewarding. When I got the bike the numbers and letters had been hand painted, probably by someone who would have done the job day in day out for years and didn't think of it as anything special. I made a point of tracing each side of the plate before stripping it so I can try to replicate as best I can.

It doesn't matter how much you do as long as its something, it all adds up.

I've done some work on the lettering tonight, first some primary school art transferring the tracing on to the plate with a pencil and some baking parchment, then, using the flat brush I bought today from hobby craft and some white enamel free handed over the tracing marks. I'm quite impressed if I do say so myself! Will need a few more coats though.

Danny, I'm still quite the amateur with paintwork, looks okay from a distance but up close you can see the flaws, I lack in patience with all the prep work with bodywork, so much filling, filing, sanding, it seems to take ages to get a result!
