Adrie,

E.T.Pink was an Ariel dealer at 221-225 Station Road, Harrow, Middlesex by 1956. In 1951 they are at 22 Station Road but I don't have earlier references to them.

I've found ads for Pinks in the back of Waller (1949) and the Book of the Norton (1952) the latter ad states Est 1929..both ads only give the address as Station Road Harrow

I grew up near Harrow and remember the shop in the early 1970s and so far as I know they were only selling bicycles by that time. My 3-speed Raleigh pushbike came from there when I was about 10 years old. I remember that they were still there in the 1980s.

The owner has bein there in 1995, all was demolished.
If the Ariel was delivered to dealer Mr. Pink on 20-03-36, is it realistic to say that it could get a Surry paper in Nov. 1936?

Most bikes were built to individual order and it was pretty rare for a dealer to buy one and keep it on display in the showroom for several months. The best clue as to whether this was a bike to special order or one for dealer stock is the specification for the bike. Stock bikes were likely to be to standard specification whereas in 1936 a common feature of a bike individually ordered would be the option extras of "Pillion seat & footrests." If you let me have engine and frame numbers (off forum) I can see what the specification of this particular bike was.

The owner has the paper, it was ordered with single upswepped pipe and sidecargear, 4 inch tires, that is a special order.
Maybe you can find more, frame nr. 2567

I worked for E. T. Pink from late 1957 for nearly 6 years, as a mechanic. It was a great place to work; almost everyone there was an active rider. Mr. Pink, was affectionately known as "the old man". He was an active motorcyclist himself, and was in the IOM every year for TT week. He had raced Manx Nortons in his younger days. He also had a Zenith Gradua of 1920 vintage if I remember right, which was entered in the London to Brighton every year. We also sponsored racers :!: Tom Thorpe, and later Ian Goddard, during my time there. Ted Pink had 2 daughters, and lived in Northwood.
I spent the rest of my working life in the motorcycle industry until retirement in 1993, thanks to Ted Pink giving me a start when I left the regular RAF.

I know Ted Pink's elder daughter Margaret (Maggy) very well and have done for years. I only found out who her father was last week and when I Googled him I arrived at this forum. I'd be glad to pass on any requests anyone may have but I'd be surprised if she has any files from the original business.
