Cibie 12v headlight

Post by robjameson »

My headlight stopped working this weekend, and I am very aware that the reflector in my headlight is in awful condition. It seems like a good time to replace it, and I'm wondering if anyone has used the cibie kit? I'm running 12v and easily balancing power at 30mph plus using a Paul goff 35/35w halogen bulb, so my main concern is whether the 60/55w h4 bulb in the cibie unit will overload my charging system and cause problems. Any thoughts, is it worth it or should I just get a replica lucas unit?

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob, 60w would be using all you could produce.
There are 6000k HID and LED kits that use a lot less - I think 30w, or even 20w for LED.
See entertaining youtube clip. http://youtu.be/KtXcS-2VTzc

Reading up on the hid it sounds like a great idea. I know from a previous Steve carter post that the h4 size bulb doesn't fit in a pre focus light unit, so perhaps a cibie unit with the hid is the best option.

Any thoughts anywhere?

Yep, I was looking at them too Steve. Could just be the duck's nuts for those of us with the short gennies.
It would be awesome if you make a Youtube clip with a dicky accent, lots of gadgets, a bald cat and a hybrid car... - but failing that, just a report would be nice...

Hello,
I did install led's to VH. I ordered some cheap ones from China and Hongkong
and modified headlamp one to fit to original place.

This one looks ok too. Too cold to go out an measure it up, but assuming it can be made to fit...
The data says 6v-36v. 6000k is a bright white light.

Because I need a new reflector unit I'm reluctant to buy a lucas unit and have to modify, I'd sooner buy a more modern 7'' unit.

These are the sorts of set up I'm looking at:
