Dynamo half charge resistor

Hi, My 1935 VH has a working 3 brush dynamo but the half charge resistor is broken. It is a length of resistor wire wound round an asbestos or similar heatproof former . As the bike is mostly original ,I would like to fix this in the original way. Does anybody know what I could use for a former - or even better point me to a replacement.
