WNG
Bought just over a year ago from an auction for, I think, £1700. Mostly all there.
Front wheel turned out to be from wd Matchless (which I ended up selling for more than the cost of buying an ariel one).
Engine turned out to have a refaced single lobe cam and followers, new piston and rebore.
Biggest spend were on the panniers and pannier frames, the unpolished stainless exhaust system and also the steel primary chaincase.
Proud of the fact that I painted on the tank numbers AND the numberplate numbers with a brush.
I replaced the military gearing after the first 3 miles test ride (thanks Neil Baker for the gears). Did that last week. Horrible messy job.
This weekends test ride went well. After about 20 miles there were no seizures AND the gearbox seems to have lost it's false neutrals.
Touched 50 along the flat, but I was taking it easy. Brenton has made me paranoid about the JP piston that is in there ....
The rear stand bangs the bottom of the mudguard on retraction.
Might need to add some weld to the stop.
Some less shiny seat springs are in the post ....

Looks great John, very jealous!
Did you have any trouble registering it or was it sorted when you bought it?

Print the number plate in your font of choice to scale (that's important - 2" high letters)
Lay on cutting board and cut them out - leave little strips to hold the inside of letters (like B or 0 )
Put stencil on number plate with blue tack
two pots of paint - white for letters and black to cover your mistakes
paint the white carefully, but roughly, inside the stencil.
Remove stencil and with smaller brush, fill in the letters.
Cover the mistakes with the black paint.
Voila !

Had to go twice.
Once to process paperwork and then to have it "examined".
Part of the reason why I did it - who knows what happens at the end of the year, when local offices are closed.

Re: WNG
There's a weird spring that stops the K/S arm from moving from the "UP" position easily. I guess it is for bumps. Is there a part number and picture of it somewhere? Oh and a few boxes of old stock ones, to save us making them..Nev

page 7 - a picture
I think it's ariel part 3308-41. Spring clip, kickstart
It's not illustrated in the 1944 WNG parts book, but it is listed.
The matchless CP bo equivalent is the 347-x, I think; Which is also not available ?
