What is safe to use as a cleaner

Post by Keith.owen »

Hi there,
I have just stripped down my Lucas 3L dynamo and it is filthy inside, being full of grease mixed with black 'soot'!!

The question is 'what can I safely use to clean / dissolve this out without risking damage to the insulation on the field coil and the commutator windings?

I had though of using IPA (Isopropyl alcohol, not beer) but need to be absolutely sure...............I don't want to ruin it (especially since I have buzzed out the windings - Commutator about 0.6 ohm, field coli about 2.7Ohm) since apart from the filth it seems electrically OK.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

White spirit or kerosene. watch out for steel particles adhering to the magnets. Wipe dry with a rag. Nev
