My new Crank

Post by Wali.Badger.Taylor »

I broke a tapered crankpin sprinting at Eelmoor in my last event of the season (in which I took first place).
We decided to put a 500 big end into a set of 350 steel flywheels, the experts said it could not be done.......

It was a 1/4 mile twisty Sprint with three corners, I won my class and the post war Brit class by two clear seconds the last run when the crank broke was my slowest of three but my time was still good enough for a first place even though I eased off when she started knocking

We are putting a lot of ponies through that motor, the new crank only has to last for one season and then we will use the ultimate crank from billet steel with a Jawa pin and silver plated needle rollers to allow the comp ratio to get op to 13;1.

Hi Wali,
Very interested in your new crank you are having made and your pursuits. Would like one of those myself if I don't have to get a second mortgage on the house for one !.
Hope you post more details in the future on it or would you mind somebody else "tag teaming" and getting two, or more, made at the same time ?.
I would like my '35 500 RH to boogie too. I would like to build another engine in short stroke to play with.
I also have a '47 500 Red Hunter in factory standard but I seem drawn to Girders a bit more for some reason.
After joining this forum I have been addicted and grateful for everybody sharing so much information and help to others.
Your a top bunch of blokes (and women)

Flattery get's you everywhere brett.
If you like looking into forks have a look at the "Kite" forks used on the 27 28 Scott Flying Squirrels. They are actually telescopics with friction (B&D) dampers. They really handle nicely. I feel a bit more confident with tele's than girders at speed and you can really play with the damping and spring rate. Nev

Wali
could you elaborate what particular problems that had to be overcome and how did you get around them in fitting the VH bigend to NH flywheels? and I think we will all be interested in the new crank. thanks
David

And---Wali, I'm curious about your " silver plated needle-rollers" big end, I guess, maybe better than INA?
Please tell us more. Thanks for the interesting contribution in the Dec 2012 Cheval.
Keep up the good work,
Robin. (born and bred in B29)
