Oil union gauze is broken

The oil union has a gauze which is brloken on one side (not the side shown in the photo!)

I've never been able to solder these things successfully either because the gauze is dirty or in this case the metal is too bulky. The split is right on the edge where it meets the union bolt so there is nothing to even stitch it to.

Does anyone know of any tricks? Maybe I need to look for another one?

PS it's for the 1930 model G

I fixed my tank tap gauze with this flux with electrical solder and a small blow torch, seems that the flux was strong enough to deal with it

Hello Dave use a good paintstripper to heat up, because the hot air of the stripper is clean and a flame always gives smoke and carbon because you burn something.
