Pressed front number plates.

My Square Four came with a pressed aluminium rear number plate, but a blank standard Ariel number plate on the font mudguard. I've bought a pair of curved pressed aluminium front plates, but I'm unsure of the best way of mounting them to the Ariel plate.
The rear has been fitted using pop rivets, which look ok after I painted them black, but the rear of the rivet would be visible if I used them on the front plates.
What did dealers use when the bikes were new? Can anyone please suggest the neatest way to fit the plates?

hi i would bond the two plates together with a good clear silicone, i use sticks like shit , and fix them to the mudguard with the mudguard number plate brackets for the bike

I have two fairly original machines with the aluminium surround and curved pressed plates and both have very small slotted screws with nuts. One bike has two towards the outside edges, the other bike has three with one screw roughly in the centre to avoid the raised sections. The screws may have been painted over after fitting. Given that the bike has the standard aluminium-edged number plate, no additional fixings on to the mudguard are necessary. I think I'll look for some small screws and nuts.

Alan, you may have already sorted your plates but I came across another method of fixing, this is an original plate from a 1959 Triumph, it was taken off the bike after just a few years when the owner fitted a handlebar fairing and is a period part. Just something to consider. Regards Paul
