MK1 timing side bush

Can anyone help I have a MK1 just bought two new plain bushes I need to know what is the clearance fit on the crankshaft journals

Waller suggests 0.002" after honing for white-metal bearings. Waller is an
excellent source of this sort of information. Otherwise talking to the supplier
of your bearings would be your best bet.

The ideal with these bearings is to finish them with the cases together and the drive
side bearing in place so that everything is properly aligned.

Without trying to stir the Possum, Back a while when Poured bearings were common we would NEVER hone white metal . The grit embeds into the softer Babbit metal, and wears the harder shaft. Better to align bore the bearing to size with a fine pointed HS cutting tool in a boring bar.. The boring bar can be as long as you wish and use centres or another bearing to achieve alignment You can buy a length of BRIGHT shaft.. You could do it in a mill or a largish lathe. The machined surface on Babbit with a fine feed is the best you can get, and you can face the thrust surfaces on the ends at the same time. Nev
