You’re right there Nev, very light weight.
The brakes are terrible at the moment, so definitely need a once over and service, but I doubt they will improve that much.
My bicycle has better brakes currently haha!

In the middle of rebuilding the gearbox as it wouldn’t select 1st gear. All looks clean and in good condition inside, so working through it methodically now.

When you get to the brakes, it might be worth getting the drums skimmed.

I would expect the braking surfaces to be a 'little out of round' by now.

Existing shoes can be re-lined by Villiers Services.

Every little helps..... :)

You’re right there Julian!
Think I’m gonna need every bit of braking power I can get on it until I look at possible upgrades in future.
Seeing as it’s not stock, I won’t feel bad about making changes to increase its usability.

To build a bit on Julian's comments on skimming the hub: it's worth noting that the braking
surface on those hubs wasn't that thick to start off with and also that tensioning the spokes
to pull a dodgy rim back to round will often pull the braking surface out of round.

Well, thanks to Paul I have the sliding member, spring and cap ready to be cleaned up and installed.

Thanks again mate!

I’ve picked up a new spring (ordered before)and tab washer from Drags, and an order in with ACME for the nuts, so we should be good to go!

Spent the last weekend rebuilding the BSA gearbox, as it wasn’t shifting, but all sorted now.
