Inlet valve wanted for 1929 OHV Model F 'Black Ariel'
Hi all
My valves are the later ones, as sold by Draganfly, and are 1/8" too long. This messes up the valve gear geometry and has caused problems. I've managed to track down a new replacement exhaust valve, but still looking for an inlet. The club spares might have some, but the Singles section is presently, how do I put it politely, "being reorganised & awaiting new management" (as it has been for about eight months...) so if anyone has a spare original inlet valve going (not the 4.1" long 'replacement' ones) I'd be happy to hear from you.
Regards
Adrian

I'd just grind the end off. Making stuff fit the older bikes is part and parcel of ownership.

One-eighth of an inch may not sound like much, but it is. On my 1928 Ariel the valve spring cup nearly touches the rocker, and if it were 1/8" higher it would. A blob of grease makes it appear the two are touching, but they're not quite. So, it's not as simple as grinding the end off.

It's technically a Black Ariel so you want the Black Ariel Spares Scheme.
If you can provide some dimensions I'll look in my box of NOS but unidentified valves.

I think the original valves are both the same length and head diameter so you could use another exhaust one with the bigger diameter guide grooves and oil feed holed.. Nev

Maybe this is of help ?
I will sell valves usable for Ariel 1927 - 31, they need to be shortened to the required length. They probably come from BMW kopia no. 80

G&S Valves (GSValves@aol.com) made the valves for my 1928 that were/are sold by the Black Ariel Spares Scheme. I just ordered valves directly from G&S for my 1954 BB Gold Star that are not in their catalog, but which they have, so they're certainly worth contacting to see if they have the ones you need gathering dust on a shelf.

They will also make ones with alterations OR one off's. If I was getting one done I'd seriously consider eliminating the Hardened cap and having the end hardened. I have some valve adjusters with bigger radii and area on the contact end that have worked fine. That can't be applied to the 30 and earlier model unless you put in later rockers which is easily done IF you want to.. Nev
