regulator cover

Post by Dave S »

Am in need of a voltage control unit cover for my 1940 W/NG, part number 6170-37.
If anyone has one they would part with I'd be delighted to hear from them, but more realistically if anyone can supply details/dimensions so I can make one I'd be just as delighted to hear from you please!
Thanks in hopeful anticipation,
Dave.

I used to make those....
But not anymore.
here's a picture showing how the cover looks when flattend .
Yep! :D I squashed a original one (the black one) to find out how & what
as you can see a few corners still needed fettling

If I can find it again I will measure it for you, but I actually dont know if I still have that model.
or maybe, there is one left in the single spares counter, I used to make them for Peter Kemp the former Single Spares Officer.
The new kid on the block never asked, but perhaps you get lucky when one still lingers in stock !

This is the mould I made to shape them on.
If you only make one there is no use ofcourse to go that route.

the part that is important to get right are the two corners, these are rounded as you can see on the steel mould

You should go back in to production of these Vincent. We all say that we are giving up making things from time to time but in the end the demand becomes too much. I need 2 please.

Have you tried Allan the Singles spares person, he found one for me after Vincent advised that he made a decent batch and sent them to the previous spares organiser. I think they were still packed away and I don’t know how many he found.

I understand that Vincent.

It looks like you made 60 pieces and sent them to Peter, maybe they have all been sold? If they have all been taken, there is clearly a demand and there are now more potential customers so is this a project the club should look at taking on to offer in future? We probably have contacts who can cut and fold sheet metal parts and if Vincent is prepared to loan the tools it should be possible.

I think I made around 50/52 blanks.
I found that the shaping of those two rounded corners was really a hand job, not an easy folding thingy.
You can see on the first pic in the post above that there is a 'funny' incurved line, thats where this rounded corner sits.
The blanks I made in a very elaborate way using a angle cutter and a die punch, + hand filing the smaller corners.
Yes, completely nuts  but thats what you do as digibeet (luddite ?) :D
It would be much wiser to make a computer drawing and have them laser or water cut.

A while ago I was contacted by (edit: name deleted on request from the man who makes these ) who asked me if I was interested (as a Ariel owner) in one of his latest products; the AVC cover .
Price was going to be 30 Eu + P&P.
He send me these pictures :
original one on the left.

Yes, the small devil is in the corner !
