'39 Sq4 side stand retaing clip wanted

Post by RayBlack »

Hello
I need a retaining clip for a '39 4G Sq4 side stand. Part number 2462-33. They do not appear to be available from Draganfly, and are not listed on the club's Sq4 spares list. Anybody got one sitting around they want to get rid of?
Thanks. Ray

I'd attempt to make one. Alan Moore did some very good posts on making W/NG fields stand springs which would show you what to do.

Thanks for the reply Johnny and Simon. I have not had any luck with Ebay (does anyone know how to filter out all the Little Mermaid paraphernalia when searching Ariel parts?). I am expecting I will have to fabricate the spring clip. Fortunately I was a metalworker in a past life.

The fun bit is getting the temper right - I had two goes at that with the stand springs. The side stand clip might be easier (as it's a bit smaller) but I found controlling the temperature across the whole spring simultaneously quite difficult. I've used a domestic oven for things like knife blades and other cutting tools, but the tempering temperature for a spring is obviously much higher.
cheers

there is some sort of side stand on my SQ4 /1939. I'll take a photo for you. If it's the right one you need, we can make a vikres for the missing part.

Hi Karol. Thanks for the reply. The original factory side stand fits on the right side of the front engine plate and folds back parallel to the lower frame rail where it is held in place by a spring clip retainer (the bit I need). There is a photo of the clip on the main chat forum, but I'm not sure how to get it here...

Karol's side stand looks like the modern Royal Enfield stand that you can by off Ebay and adapt to fit, a number of other people on this forum have done this. Details here.
